This is an incredible opportunity to become involved in a meaningful community project with a team of passionate and dedicated individuals. We need YOU to make our store a success!

All Owners are welcome to run. Those with skills in finance, grocery or retail operations/management, IT, legal and marketing would bring valuable skills to our current Board. 

There are nine (9) positions up for election. Elected Board members serve a term of three years (or less, if elected or appointed to a position vacated by a previous Director who did not complete their term).

Board Responsibilities and Expectations

As a Board member you will work collaboratively with other Board members to:

  • Commit to a three-year term (or less, if elected or appointed to a position vacated by a previous Director who did not complete their term). 
  • Ability and willingness to commit a minimum of five hours per week towards Prairie Food Co-op business and activities, and understand additional time may be required of me during busy periods. 
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in Board meetings (held the first and third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, unless a holiday or a different schedule is set by the Board). 
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in a Board annual retreat. 
  • Respond timely (ideally within 48 hours) to Prairie Food Co-op Board emails, messages and/or voice mail messages. 
  • Attend the Prairie Food Co-op annual meeting, the official meeting of the Owners of PFC. 
  • Serve on at least one designated Board committee (designation based on skill and interest), which includes preparing for meetings and working with a team to accomplish the work of the committee. 
  • Basic computer skills and comfortable using email, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.

 All Board Candidates must:

  1. Be a Prairie Food Owner in good standing for at least 3 months (on or before January 14, 2026).
  2. Not have any conflict of interest with Prairie Food Co-op.
  3. Review the candidate packet.
  4. Complete an online application and headshot by Monday, May 4th, 2026.
  5. Register and attend one of the Candidate Info Sessions on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 7:00pm-8:00pm via Zoom or Sunday April 26, 2026 at the cafe space at the Prairie Food Coop from 4:00pm-5:00pm. This is a candidate requirement. If unable to participate, you must notify the Board by April 20th at [email protected] to make alternate arrangements. 

Election Process

Candidate applications are due May 4, 2026. Candidate profiles will be posted online in late May. All Owners in good standing will be given the opportunity to vote for Board candidates. Secure online voting will begin on May 22nd, 2026 and conclude after the Annual Owners’ Meeting on June 4, 2026. Paper ballots will be mailed by request only and must be received prior to the Owners’ Meeting to be included in the count. Election results will be announced in the following week.
